ResiRiver
The Interreg Resilient River (ResiRiver) project focuses on the creation of Resilient River Systems through the mainstreaming and upscaling of Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
In North-West Europe, river systems are facing significant challenges due to climate change. These challenges include severe floods and droughts with major impacts on biodiversity and economic sectors such as navigation, agriculture and recreation.
Nature-based solutions (NbS) have proven to be a sustainable approach to mitigate these threats while enhancing the climate resilience of river systems. They contribute to the EU’s ambition to create a Blue Economy and promote climate resilience while providing benefits for human well-being and biodiversity.
However, the widespread implementation (mainstreaming) and large-scale application (upscaling) of NbS in river systems has not yet become common practice. The ResiRiver project aims to build a solid foundation for NbS that will accelerate mainstreaming by collecting, transferring and synthesizing knowledge and experience from large-scale NbS pilot projects.
Building on a strong partnership covering river systems in Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, and the Netherlands, the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Rijkswaterstaat, serves as lead partner in cooperation with other project partners.
